Job description

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) is now accepting applications for postdoctoral researchers in solar energy to participate in the EERE Postdoctoral Research Awards. The EERE Postdoctoral Research Awards support research on energy efficiency and renewable energy to help solve our nation’s energy challenges. This year up to five recent Ph.D. recipients will have the opportunity to conduct applied research projects to advance breakthroughs in solar energy technologies at universities, national laboratories and other research facilities at various locations across the United States.


Research opportunities will be awarded to qualified applicants to work on collaborative applied research of mutual interest to the applicant, the host facility, and the EERE Program Office sponsoring the award.


Potential research topics for these awards include behavioral and data science to lower solar electricity cost, systems integration, concentrating solar power, and photovoltaic cells, modules, and materials.


Benefits include a yearly stipend of $65,000, a research allowance of $10,000, a research mentor allowance of $5,000, health insurance, and possible relocation travel up to $5,000.

Qualifications


Applicants must meet each of the following criteria:


  1. Have a Ph.D. for no more than five years from the application deadline or complete all the doctoral degree requirements by May 20, 2016.

  2. Have U.S. citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) status by May 6, 2016.

  3. Be available to start by September 1, 2016. (Possible Exceptions)

  4. 4. Have received support to submit an application from a research mentor who holds a principal investigator position at a research facility. (see application website for details)

  5. Be eligible to obtain security or visitation clearance, if one is required by the host facility.

  6. Have demonstrated commitment to pursue innovative research in EERE areas of interest.

  7. Have a superior academic performance record.

Eligibility Requirements


Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or LPR (Legal Permanent Resident)


Degree: Currently pursuing a Doctoral degree or have received this degree within 60 months.
